Understanding Skill Rating in Pro Clubs

What it means, how it works, and how to improve it in EA FC 26.

What is Skill Rating?

Skill Rating (SR) is a numerical value that represents your Pro Clubs team's competitive level in EA FC 26. Think of it like an Elo rating in chess — it goes up when you win and down when you lose. The higher your Skill Rating, the better your club is considered to be.

Unlike your division (which goes from 10 down to 1), Skill Rating is a continuous number that provides a more granular picture of where your team stands. Two clubs can both be in Division 3, but the one with a higher Skill Rating is technically better ranked.

You can check your club's Skill Rating anytime on Pro Clubs Tracker by searching for your club. It's displayed alongside your division and overall record.

How Skill Rating is Calculated

EA hasn't published the exact formula, but from community observation and data analysis, here's what we know about how Skill Rating works in Pro Clubs:

Wins Increase SR

Winning a match always increases your Skill Rating. The amount gained depends on the relative strength of the opponent — beating a higher-rated club gives more points than beating a lower-rated one.

Losses Decrease SR

Losing drops your Skill Rating. Losing to a much weaker club costs you more points than losing to a club ranked above you. This prevents clubs from tanking without consequence.

Draws Have Minimal Impact

Drawing generally has a small effect. If you draw against a higher-rated club, your SR may slightly increase. If you draw against a lower-rated club, it may slightly decrease or stay flat.

Goal Difference Matters (Slightly)

There's evidence that the margin of victory has some effect. A 5-0 win may give slightly more SR than a 1-0 win, though the primary factor is always win/loss/draw.

Skill Rating Ranges

While there are no official tiers, here's a rough guide to what different Skill Rating ranges mean based on data from clubs tracked on Pro Clubs Tracker:

Skill RatingLevelTypical Division
0 - 500BeginnerDiv 10 - 8
500 - 1000AverageDiv 7 - 5
1000 - 1500CompetitiveDiv 4 - 3
1500 - 2000EliteDiv 2 - 1
2000+Top TierDiv 1

These ranges are approximate and can vary by platform. Current gen (PS5/Xbox Series X|S/PC) tends to have a higher concentration of competitive players, so the same Skill Rating may mean different things on old gen.

Skill Rating vs Division

Divisions and Skill Rating are related but separate systems. Your division determines who you're matched against and what rewards you get. Skill Rating is a more precise ranking within and across divisions.

You can be promoted to a new division while your Skill Rating stays the same, and your Skill Rating can fluctuate significantly within the same division. Think of divisions as the league you're in, and Skill Rating as your position on the leaderboard within that league.

When comparing clubs using our Head to Head tool, Skill Rating is one of the 13 categories compared. It's often the most meaningful single stat for gauging overall club quality.

How to Improve Your Skill Rating

The short answer is: win more games. But here are some specific strategies:

  1. Play with a consistent squad. Random matchmaking with strangers leads to inconsistent results. Playing with the same group means better communication and chemistry.
  2. Focus on not losing rather than winning big. A 1-0 win and a 5-0 win give similar SR gains, but the difference between a loss and a draw is significant. Prioritise solid defending.
  3. Avoid quitting matches. Disconnecting or quitting counts as a loss and may have additional SR penalties. Always play the full 90 minutes.
  4. Play during peak hours. More players online means better matchmaking. Off-peak hours can result in mismatched games against much higher or lower rated clubs.
  5. Use Pro Clubs Tracker to identify weaknesses. Check your stats regularly. If your goals conceded per game is high, work on defence. If your win rate drops after halftime, focus on fitness and stamina management.

Tracking Your Progress

You can track your Skill Rating over time by regularly checking your club on Pro Clubs Tracker. While we don't yet offer historical graphs of SR changes (coming soon), you can monitor your overall stats, win rate, and form to gauge whether your rating is trending up or down.

Pay attention to your recent form in particular. A string of wins will push your SR up, while even a few losses can drop it significantly — especially if those losses are against lower-rated clubs.
